Privacy Policy
Your music stays yours
Last updated: 11 October 2026
This policy covers the Plexi Music Android app, the Plexi Music web app at pleximusic.app and this website, pleximusic.com. They are provided by Produktiv Friktion Media AB, Sweden (“we”, “us”).
In short
- We do not collect your data. Plexi Music has no account with us and we run no server that receives your library, your listening, your ratings or your notes.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no cookies. Neither the apps nor this website use them.
- Your library, ratings, notes and downloads are stored on your own device.
- The app reads your music from your own Google Drive, read-only.
- Three optional features contact third-party services. They are off by default and are described below.
What the app accesses
Google Drive (read-only)
To play your music, Plexi Music asks for read-only access to your Google Drive
(the drive.readonly scope). The app uses it to list the folders and files in the music folder
you choose, to read audio files (to play them, to read their tags, embedded cover art and lyrics, and to
measure their format), and to download albums for offline listening when you ask it to.
The app never creates, changes, moves or deletes anything in your Drive.
The access token Google gives the app is kept in the device’s memory only and renewed through Google’s sign-in. It is not written to disk and never sent to us or to any third party. You can withdraw access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Plexi Music’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, information from your Google Drive is used only to provide the music-player features you see in the app, is not transferred to anyone, is not used for advertising, and is not read by humans.
Android permissions
- Internet and network state: to stream from Drive and to know when you are offline.
- Wi-Fi state: to find your local network address when you cast to a speaker.
- Foreground service (media playback), notifications and wake lock: so music keeps playing with the screen off and the player controls appear in the notification.
- Modify audio settings: for the tone control.
What is stored on your device
An index of your library (titles, artists, albums, tags and the Drive folder and file IDs), cached cover art, albums you downloaded for offline use, your ratings, reviews, liner notes, favourite tracks, listening history, measured dynamic range, settings, and any credits, covers or lyrics you chose to fetch (see below). On Android this lives in the app’s private storage. In the web app it lives in your browser’s storage (IndexedDB, the origin-private file system and local storage). None of it is sent to us. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data (or the site data in your browser) removes it. The Android and web apps do not share data with each other.
Optional features that contact other services
These three switches are in Settings and are off by default. When you turn one on, the app sends only the text listed below. It never sends your Drive token, your files or the contents of your library. Like any request over the internet, the service sees your IP address and how the request identifies itself (on Android, the app’s name and version; on the web, your browser), and is governed by its own privacy policy.
| Feature | Service | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Fetch missing covers | MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive (Internet Archive); on Android also Deezer as a fallback | Artist name and album title |
| Fetch missing lyrics | LRCLIB | Artist name, track title, album title and track length |
| Credits per track | MusicBrainz | Artist name and album title, then the IDs MusicBrainz returns |
Separately, the Read more button on an album opens a search on Wikipedia (the app asks Wikipedia’s search for the album title and artist when you tap it) or on Discogs, in your browser. From that moment you are using those websites.
Casting to speakers
When you cast to a Chromecast or Google Cast speaker, the Android app plays your music to it over your local network through a temporary server on your phone, using a random secret address that exists only for that session. Your Drive token stays on the phone. Finding the speakers and the cast session itself are handled by Google Play services and are governed by Google’s privacy policy.
Websites and hosting
The web app and this website are delivered by third-party hosting providers, which, like any host, process technical request data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and keep them secure. We do not use cookies, analytics or advertising. The fonts are served from our own site, not from a font service. The web app signs you in to Google with Google’s own sign-in library.
Google Play
If you install the Android app from Google Play, Google handles your purchase and installation under its own terms and privacy policy, and may give us aggregated, anonymous statistics (such as installs and, if you have chosen to share diagnostics with Google, crash reports). We receive no personal information about you from this.
Contacting us
If you email us we use your address and message only to reply, and keep the conversation for as long as it is useful. We have no other personal data about you. If you want to ask us anything about this policy: joakim@friktionmedia.se.
Your rights
Because your data stays on your device, you already control it: you can look at it, change it and delete it yourself by using or removing the app, and you can withdraw Google Drive access at any time. If you believe we handle personal data wrongly, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) or the authority in your own country.
Children
Plexi Music is not directed at children and needs a Google account. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If the apps start doing something this policy does not describe, we will update it here before the change reaches you and change the date at the top.
